I’m not sure what I was thinking that day.

It was a normal Thursday, nothing new or exciting had occurred in the morning.

I’d risen from bed, taken a shower and brushed my teeth. I’d then jumped on the 805 bus that ran a short distance between my house and the county library where I worked.

The ride took its usual 15 minutes before it left me standing fresh faced in front of a building of gothic construction that was my favorite place in the world.

After straightening my knee length skirt, I pushed open the door that led into the interior of the library.

It was at that moment that my world would change – impossibly and forever. It was a fateful movement of wood that collided with the shoulder of a man that would alter my very existence.

It wasn’t fear that I felt at that moment – more like the feeling of being watched. It was the feeling of knowing that danger lurks - the sensation of the hair standing on end at the back of your neck.

Looking back on a moment that happened so many months ago, I now realize that I should have listened to that feeling.

As I would later find out, the man standing in front of me referred to himself as Master Lucas…

…and I was his next target.

I really don't know how to feel about this book. I didn't particularly care about reading another book inside the book. Aside from that, not quite sure how to process what I just read. I'd say that anger comes to mind. I'll get back to that, though.

***SPOILERS*** (I tried to figure out how to get my frustrations out without revealing spoilers, but it was pretty much impossible -- read at your own risk.)

Autumn was kind of predictable. Her personality wouldn't have allowed for her to remain a victim of Lucas's manipulation forever, so I'm glad that to see at least went right. It's one of the reasons I gave this three stars instead of two.

Lucas was ... interesting. You kind of hate him throughout the story. He's deplorable, vile, manipulative, and completely seductive to a woman like Autumn. He's a selfish creature. However, as I type up my review, I have to give pause and wonder if maybe Lucas is just as much of a victim in all this as Autumn. A line from Autumn's inner monologue and the end paragraph is what got me wondering. Autumn: "Looking back over the events in his home, I realized quickly that he'd always been begging me to free myself, to refuse his abuse." End paragraph: "This book is dedicated to the person who freed herself because she can now see the lesson that is hidden within the filth." The reason I'm pondering this is due to Sarah.

Sarah is what had me angry about this book. Every time she came on the page, my skin crawled. I detested her character. And the very end, what she reveals to Autumn about everything with Lucas and the muses, that's when it all clicked for me. Lucas is trapped in her web. They'd even held a conversation once about who was better at this, him as the Master or her as the Domme. I'm going with her as the Domme. Given everything that unfolded, I suspect that Lucas wanted someone to be freed from Sarah's game of their own accord because he was sucked in too deep by this point. He wanted Autumn to free herself, otherwise he wouldn't have cared one way or the other what happened to her at the police station. He was still going to be in his own prison regardless.

I could be overreaching, but with all the hints thrown in there, that's my theory.

Another reason I gave this three stars is due to Mary-Beth. Good-grief. It was all a little questionable with her mental stability. Someone as observant as Autumn would have picked up on something. She had instincts about Lucas (which, granted, she ignored, but still -- they were there), instincts about Sarah . . . so why wouldn't she have picked up on something about Mary-Beth earlier than when Lucas comes into the picture? The unhinged aspect of it all just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Finally, my ultimate reason for anger . . . Adam. The pairing would have been likable had there not been so much time spent between Lucas and Autumn. I don't necessarily want to say there was build-up because that whole relationship was completely manipulative and abusive. But I felt cheated that we only got a small blurb of Adam and Autumn. If that's the direction it was going, and it made perfect sense for it to unfold the way it did, I at least would ask for some time to adjust to the sudden pair-off. But, I think this actually built up room for a sequel due to the ending. I truly want to see Sarah get her comeuppance and with Adam's wink at the end, I think he was still her trained little puppy. I'd definitely be invested in seeing how this plays out if she's returning to this story at all.

Overall, it was an interesting, twisted read.

Target This A Dark Psychological Thriller edition by Lily White Romance eBooks Reviews

I just finished Target This and closed my kindle with two thoughts...Lily White is a phenomenal writer who gets in your head and strings you along like a spider spinning it's web..and the second thought being WTF? A few times while reading I actually think she was referring back to characters and situations from her last two releases..it was everything I hoped for. It was unique and clever, erotic and dark. Each time I stopped reading ( yes, life would get in the way, ie work, husband) I would find myself thinking of the story and thinking of the characters. Book hangover! The only thing I feel compelled,to mention and If I am being true to you by leaving a review, I want to let Our authors know that whomever proof reads her books needs to be a little more careful. I noticed in her last book a few errors and one in this one..(hope that didn't piss ya off Lily)..but being the writer you are, I would think you would want to know. Looking forward to more of her work in the future and am ready to spread the word and tell everyone that this should be their next obsession!
Let me start off with the reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5... You know when you're reading a fantastic book and everything is just perfect and the pages are keeping you on your toes and your just so engrossed you can't even get up to go to the bathroom because you don't want to distract yourself?? well, this is how i felt with this book right up until the epilogue. The epilogue was great don't get me wrong, it was a good ending but i was disappointed with the fact that there was one scene that could have meant 2 different things. I hate when a book leaves me questions which one was it? i need answers, i need some sort of closure... not a it could have been this way, but this is what you get. ugh!
Having said all that this book was legit so good i read it in a day. i couldn't keep my hands off my kindle, i caught myself sneaking a chapter or 2 while at work it was that good! Lucas bates... ugh he's so hot and so mean and just so dreamy... think of a man that is absolutely beautifully in every way, shape or form then add swag, intelligence and sex to that and you got him! so unbelievably hot that i think i may cheat on my first choice book boyfriend with this guy! haha
There's a lesson to be learned from this book and i believe the author did a fabulous job and getting that point across. The development of the characters were amazing too. this book is beautifully written and although there were a few grammar issues, it was all in all very good. You should get this book now, do yourself a favor!! enjoy.
At first I thought...is this guy a serial killer? He's a serial something...

The tone of this book is dark bordering on psychotic. There is a surprise thrown in at the end that left me stunned. I don't know why, there were hints throughout the book that things were not as they seemed. Even the few paragraphs and the end of the book have you asking, 'Hmm...did he meet the one? Why would she warn her off?'

I wish there was more on the background of Autumn. It seemed as if the author alluded that something in Autumn's past resulted in her reticence toward relationships with people but nothing was ever explained. I also wasn't crazy that so much time was spent on the book Lucas was writing. And the way HIS book ended really made me think it wouldn't take much for him to kill a woman just to see what it felt like. Have a feeling he would have liked it.
